Group magazine advert- Miss Miller

Group Magazine Advert – Miss Miller

Intro
We had to agree on one advert to create our group magazine advert, to do this we looked at eachothers and discussed what we liked and disliked, from this we knew whos we prefered, this process also got the points from each magazione advert we liked so we could include it on our joint magazine advert.
We all decided that we liked my magazine advert the best and from that we worked together to make it better and suit the genre better which my advert didn't do at first.
Main
Colours
We decided to change the colours of my magazine advert, I had made mine simplistic and the colour wasn't conventional to the genre. So when we worked on the joint one we decided to change the colour scheme so it was brighter and more conventional to the genre. This helps it stand out in a magazine and will atract people to the advert. This is conventional and shows the audience that our artist is also conventional which will help gain the artist a fan base.

-Conventions of genre – whether have conformed/subverted and why.
We have conformed to conventions of the genre, we done this by using the colours that would be seen as conventional which are bright and stand out. This will impress our target audience as that is what they like and will also show a larger audience what the genre is like. The magazine advert isn't too diverse so that people are put off of the album, it follows conventions while still attracting people to the album.

Images used
In my individual magazione advert I used an image that I took myself, which was of a skyline, this image is interesting and suits the genre as it has wavy colouds which are quite rare, this makes the image different to any image I have seen before. In the joint magazine advert, we kept the image but changed the colours so it was even more unique, it now has a puple sky. We have also included an image of a rhino which is in the center of the magazine advert, this is bold and our group incuded it as we wanted to have a symbol for our artist and the rhino fits with the white rhino name o the artist. The use of the rhino isn't conventional as most artist in the genre use themselves on the magazine advert, by using the rhino we have defied conventions and made our magazine advert more memorable to our audience.

Layout/design
The Layout and design chnaged as we included a rhino in the center of the advert which attracts the readers attention to the advert, apart from a that we made changes to font size and layout, but this was to make the magazine advert more obvious that it was promoting the album which I don't feel like it was doing before.

- Typography
The typography is fairly plain and simple but also unique, We could have changed it to a more conventional font, but we felt we wanted the writing to be readable, which our typography is.

- Language
We kept a simple amount of language on the magazine advert, it has the name of our atist, the album name and the 'out now' slogan to advertise the album.

- Think about connotations of all of the above
The connotations that come from our magazine advert are that it is conventional to the genre, this is thropugh the unique image including the rhino, so the fans of the genre will like it, but also the advert is bold and will attract attention from magazine readers, giving us the best chance of making a popular magazine advert.

Talk about elements that you have taken from each group member, explaining why you have incorporated them (include screen shots of each other’s magazine adverts – brief analysis of what have incorporated)
From my magazine advert we kept the basic layout and the image along with the typography and font.
From Harry and Bens we included the rhino image which they bioth had on their magaizne adverts we decided to incoprperate this as they wanted to make the advert bolder and have a symbol for our artist which the rhino does for us.

Harry's magazine advert wasn't one that I liked, in my opinion the font was to bold and didn't fit the artists image or genre, also the background was very bold and didn;t have any relevance to the genre, the element that we decided to use was the rhino image.

Ben's magazine advert was also bold and the font wasn't very nice to look at and he had two different fonts which didn't go together, he tried to fit conventions of the genre but they din't fit the theme of his other elemnts in the advert. Also the background image wasn't his own and didn't fit the genre conventions. We chose to incorperate the rhino image that he used but we chose Harry's instead.

My magazine advert was simplistic and they felt it didn't catch the readers attention or fit the genre conventions. But we all decided that it was the best base to work on our group magazine advert.

Conclusion

I feel that our magazine advert conforms to our genres conventions as it is colourful but not too bold, the background image is unique and still fits genre conventions, the font and typography allow the reader to clearly see what is being advertisted.
I feel that our target audience would like our magazine advert as it fits the genre conventions whithout making it over the top which could put people off of our magazine advert, I feel we got the balance right.
I found working as a group to be good as we all worked together to create the best magazine advert possible, the ideas that come from every member helped make the best magzine advert possible.

Individual digipak analysis- Miss Miller

  • Explain why you have created an individual digipak
I have created a digipak as it is the best way to package the CD for the fans enjoyment, as it is more personal to them with special images of the artist and a thank you note, this is why I created a digipak over a crystal case CD package. I created an individual digipak as it allows me to put my ideas of what a good digipak would be like and then when we create a joint digipak with my group my ideas that everyone like can be included, this will help make the best digipak possible, hopefully to the benefit of the fans of the artist.
  • Colours
I chose to use a range of colours in the different sides of my digipak specifically the front cover, I chose to do this as it is conventional to the genre we have chosen, the purple and yellow mix that is shown by the sunset is very bold and will attract people to the digipak. These colours have all been chosen as they are conventional to the genre as  the genre conventions are bright colours and images, this fits that convention.
  • Conventions of genre – whether have conformed/subverted and why
I have conformed to the conventions of the genre in some ways, especially as I have chosen a bright and bold image to put as the front cover of the digipak which people would recognise as conventioanl to the genre of phsycedlic rock. Apart from that I feel that the digipak appeals to  a wide audience as it looks modern and doesn't indicate that the album is specifically for the audience that like phsycedlic rock, this will gain the album a larger audience. This is as the genre isn't majorly popular so to gain the largest audience you have to make the digipak attractive to the large audiences.
  • Images used
For my individual digipak I have chosen to include images that I have taken personally such as the image on the front cover of the digipak, the image used on the back cover, which is also included on the CD and also the image of the artist. By using these the digipak has a more personal feel and this will benifit us as the fans by digipaks as they want a  more personal experience which they get from imagaes used and personal messages which I included in my digipak. The images are also partly conventional which will attract the fans of the genre. The other image of the buildings is an image that goes with the music video and will be like by the audience of the digipak as they will see that it relates between the music video and the digiapak.
  • Layout/design
I chose a basic design for my digipak, every side of the digipak has an image which is used as the background, this then allows the text over the top such as the message to fans or the track list. Two sides do not have any text and are included just for the artistic perspective and to link the digipak to the music video. I feel that this layout is the best for a digipak as it allows the personal message, the art and it is basic and will be clear to people that it is a digpak. The layout of the digipak is conventional to most genres and specifically our own, it includes personal artwork which is very conventional to our genre and the design is also conventional, this will attract our target audience.
  • Typography
Again I chose to keep my digipak basic, this goes with the typography that I chose which is basic and bold. This was chosen so the audience can read the message, the album name and the track list easily. The typography is basic as it is conventional of the genre, most album covers and digipaks in the genre choose to use a basic font as it doesn't take any focus from the artistic images used.
  • Language
There was a use of language on the digipak specifically the message to the fans of the artist, we chose to include this as we saw other artists that had done this for their digipaks and we felt it would make the digipak more personal to the fans of the artist. This will help create the relationship between the fans and the artist that is very important. This isn't conventional to our genre as not a lot of artists choose to do this but we felt we wanted to include it as it makes the digipak more personal to the fans.
  • Think about connotations of all of the above
the connotations that will come from this digipak is that it is quite conventional to the genre I have chosen whilst still attracting a wide audience, I feel that I done this by including some conventions such as the different colour schemes and images, and also the typography that is basic and conventional. Their will still be a wider audience that will be drawn into this digipak I feel that I done this by including images that are modern and look good. The fans will feel the relationship between them and the artist as I have included a personal message to them, also the images that are from the music video will be related and the audience will notice this.

  • Talk about your weaknesses with using Photoshop – what tools did you struggle with? How did you overcome this?
I had some weaknesses with using photoshop especially some basic things such as putting two layers on the same page, this was learnt eventually as I asked for help, also I found implementing different filters difficult as I would be confused as to what I had to do to put them on, this was also learnt by asking for help, and I could then finish my digipak efficently.
  • Talk about your strengths with Photoshop – what tools did you use? Do you think this helped you create a successful advert? Why?
the strengths I had when using photoshop were adding text and finding good fonts and colours to use on the texts, this is also very important for digipaks as it is what is definitely looked at by the audience and can make the digipak look conventional or unconventional depending on the texts used. I feel that this helped me make a successful magazine advert as I could make the digipak look conventional to the genre, which will attract our target audience.
Conclusion
  • Do you feel your digipak conforms or adheres to your genre’s conventions? Why?
I feel that my digipak is conventional to the genre we have chosen as I chose to implement images with a range of bright colours, which are seen as a convention of the genre, such as on the front cover. Apart from this I feel that the digipak will appeal to a large audience as the images looks nice and fit well with a modern theme that I tried to make my digipak around, as I felt this would attract a younger audience, this isn't conventional to the genre specifically but there are other elements on the digipak that are conventional.
  • Do you think it appeals to your target audience? How/why
I think that the digipak appeals to our target audience as it looks modern and this will attrcat them to it, as opposed to  a digipak that looks very conventional to the genre which might put people off of looking into the digipak more, this would lose sales for the digipak, so by not making the digipak completely conventional it attracts a larger audience and our specific target audience.
  • How do you think creating an individual digipak will help ensure your group produces a successful final digipak?
I think by creating an individual digipak will help my group produce a good final digipak as my best ideas that are liked by my group will be implemented and will be joint with the other best ideas from my group, this will insure the final digiapk is of a high quality.

Individual magazine advert- Miss Miller

Introduction

I have created an individual magazine advert as it is my ideas of what would make people want to buy and album, it allows me to put my ideas forward of what I think would work well for a magazine advert such as fonts and conventional images. I have made an individual magazine advert now and will join with my group to make a joint magazine advert that will include parts of all of our individual magazine adverts.

Main
·         Explain why you have decided to use certain elements within your poster and how it has made your poster appeal to your target audience as well as promote your artist effectively
o   Colours
I choose to use simple colours on my magazine advert as I wanted the people taht see the magazine advert to be drawn into it which might not have been applicable with a harsh colour scheme. I chose to use white coloured font as it is clear to read for the audience and goes with the background image which is blue and white.
o   Conventions of genre – whether have conformed/subverted and why
I have partly conformed to genre conventions as the image I have used isn't a direct relation to the artists, it is an image of the sky. Other magazine adverts in the genre sometimes choose not to use a photo of the artists but instead an image of something that looks pleasing to the audience, in this case it is a unique picture of the sky. The conventions of the genre sometimes are that the artist prefer to use art like I have instead of an image of the artist.
o   Images used
I used an image that I took personally, it is a picture of a sky landscape and has a unique look with the clouds, I choose to use this image as it looks interesting and is different to other magazine adverts that are in the genre, also I felt that the image would allow for more focus on what the advert is about which is to promote the album.
o   Layout/design
I choose a simple layout for my magazine advert I have put The name of the artist at the top of the page and the album name along with the notice that the album is 'out now' at the bottom of the page.
o   Typography
I choose a simple yet bold typography for my magazine advert as I felt that it was easy to read and wouldn't make the audience be put off of the album which could have happened with a more conventional font, as they might have thought the album would be too different to what they are used to, but with the more popular bold and basic font I feel that a wider audience range will be more attracted to the album.
o   Language
I choose to use a simple and obvious language of the 'out now' slogan at the bottom of the magazine advert, I felt that this would be easy to understand for a wide audience and would be quick to read, which is important as the people reading the magazine only look at a  page for a quick amount of time and if it takes to long to read the information on the magazine advert would be missed.
o   Think about connotations of all of the above
The connotations form the elements I have included in my magazine advert will make the magazine advert appear to be nice looking and would attract the magazine readers to look at the advert, which would get the information across to them. Also the magazine advert isn't the most conventional to the genre but I chose to make it this way as reader of the magazine might not understand the genre and this way they will be more attracted tho buying the magazine. The negative connotations that could come from my magazine advert is that it doesn't promote the artist as it is just a picture and this could put people off of the artist as they feel he isn't talented, if he was he would show himself of the front of the advert.

I had weaknesses when using photoshop as I struggled with getting the right colour texts and at first I struggled with modifying the font which was something I later decided that I didn't want to include in my magazine advert. To overcome the struggle with the right colour texts I asked for help and discovered a way to match the colour of the background to the colour of the texts which is what I wanted.

·         Talk about your strengths with Photoshop – what tools did you use? Do you think this helped you create a successful advert? Why?

I tried to keep my magazine advert basic so I didn't need to use any complected tools, although I made used of the colour matching tool which was useful, I found photoshop easy to use and the process of creating the magazine advert was very simple.

Conclusion

I feel that my advert wouldn't be recognised as a psychedelic rock magazine advert as I don't include specific conventions such as bright colours.
I think it appeals to the target audience as the magazine advert looks modern and has a nice design that people would like, this is important as the products we make need to be suited to them as they are our target audience and if they don't like it then we lose lots of potential fans.
I think that by making an individual magazine advert my group will benefit as I have learnt skill that I can use when making the final magazine advert. Also the ideas that I have come up with might be used in the magazine advert we make as a group which would be good as I feel that my magazine advert would be best suited to attracting a larger audience as it doesn't put off audiences that do not now about the phsycedelic rock genre. My target audience would like it as it unique and that is conventional to the genre, also they would appreciate the artist showing art, instead of following pop conventions such as having a picture of the artist on the magazine advert.

Photo shoot- Miss Miller

Intro

During the filming of our music video we took pictures of the surrounding setting, such as buildings or other features, we also took photos of our artist in the locations that we filmed our music video in, some photos are out of context with the narrative of the music video but some photos fit in with the music video as that could be where the artist stood during the music video for example. We will be using the photos in our digipak, and our magazine adverts, this will allow us to make a digipak that is related to our music video and have a more personal feel for the audience. We took a variety of pictures as it will allow me to have a choice of what photos to use for my digipak and magazine advert, also some photos might not come out as well as we thought they might so would not be usable so when a variety of photos are taken this allows for error.

Main

I took this picture as I felt that it would be good to use on the cover of the digipak or magazine advert, as the artist in our music video is the focus, the body language and facial expressions as well as the setting and lighting are all conventional to the genre and relate to the narrative of our music video so fans would be able to relate them and this would make the artist seem creative as it is all linking together. This image is very conventional of the genre as it shows the artist and he is still in character form the music video this is what is seen on tame impalas digipak, where the artist is seen as the focus of the image. I feel that this image will help build a relationship between the artists and the audience as it follows the narrative of the music video which the fans would like, also I feel that the image uses lighting and colour well and the body language of the artist is also good, these will all be useful to us if we choose to place the image on the digipak or magazine advert as it wouldn't need to be edited and would fit the conventions of the genre that we are trying to keep to. The representation of the artist from this image is that he is lonely and moody, this is again relating to the lyrics in the song used in our music video.
I took this image as I felt that it was an exciting image with lots going on, firstly there is a lot of people in the picture and this makes the image exciting, the building in the middle is a very famous building in London so this image will be relate able for the audience. I intend to use this image on a side of my digipak, I feel that this would be good for the digipak as it is an exciting image and tells a bit of a story and is relate-able for the audience, which is important for a digipak as the are supposed to be personal to the fans of the artist. This image isn't conventional of the genre but it also isn't subversive as Tame Impala used a image on their album front cover that is of a park and building with people in the foreground, so in this context is fits into the genre conventions, the image will be good to use on the digipak in this case, but I feel that it wouldn't be good for the magazine advert as it doesn't have any relevance to the artist. The image will not help build a relationship between the artist and the audience but, it will be an interesting image to include on the digipak and the audience might enjoy the image. If used in the digipak we would edit the image to make it more conventional to the genre, this would include adding phsycedelic effects.
This image was taken as I felt that it was a nice setting and it goes with the narrative of the music video, as the artist is on his own and this is what is shown in the music video and relates directly to the breakup element of the song and narrative. I will include this image on the digipak as it helps create a relationship between the artists and the audience as he is looking directly into the camera, which makes the audience feel as if they are involved in the scene. And the looking at the audience creates the link between the audience and the artist. The image relates to the narrative as he is on his own in a London setting, this would be interesting for the audience as they see the link between the digipak and the music video. This image could possibly be used for the back cover of the digipak this would also have the lyrics on.
I took a picture of this as I felt the clouds were abnormal, and could be seen as conventional to the genre as it is quite unusual and the images of sky have been used on other digipaks that I have seen, so I though that I could use my own image. I have decide to use this image on either my digipak or magazine advert, I think by using it on my magazine advert, it would intrigue people that see the image as it looks different, then they would see the advertising for the album and might be keen to buy it. This image is conventional to the genre as I have seen other album covers use picture of the sky for their album, such as Tame Impala and their album cover for Innerspeaker. What I think is good about this picture is the pattern in the clouds which are unusual so will be nice to look at for people looking at the magazine advert, it also fits the genre conventions as it isn't a 'harsh' image it is a nice picture which fits the relaxing nature of the genre. This image will be enjoyable for the people that see it and it could persuade them to buy the album. This image could possibly be edited to fit genre conventions by using bright colours for example

Conclusion
I enjoyed taking the photos for the photo shoot and I felt that all the photos came out well and could be used in the future on either the magazine advert or on the digipak, I felt that the images were easy to take, but the lighting for the first image was hard to get right so took some time, after that though I feel the image was taken well. The main struggle was people walking infront of the camera when taking a picture, although this wasn't a major problem. The images give the artist a positive representation as it makes him look creative with the different pictures and the picture of him fits the narrative or the music video.
As a group we will make our own digpaks and magazine adverts before joining and working on one joint one where our ideas will come together.

Risk assessment- Miss Georgiou

It is important to consider what risks there are during the filming process, as this will prevent form any incidents as we are aware what could go wrong and will try to prevent anything from happening.

We followed any risk assessment made before the filming process very closely during the filming of our music video, as we knew that it was important to do so, it made the filming of our music video safer and it helped prevent any incidents from happening such as personal  injury or people stealing our equipment.

Filming schedule- Miss Georgiou

The filming schedule was important during the filming process as it gave us a guide to what locations and basic ideas of the narrative we were filming on each day, this helped with logistics of getting to the location, remembering the narrative that was due to be filmed and getting equipment ready for filming, along with the storyboard the filming schedule has made sure that we could get all the filming done in good time and the whole group knew what we was doing and where we were filming.
We did follow the filming schedule generally, but for some locations we might go off track in the moment and film at another location near by, this would allow us to take more shots and would benefit our music video.

Planning Digipak - Miss Miller

Intro
Digipaks are important for artists as they offer a different and more personal experience of the album for the fan of the artist, this an help the artist to gain a larger fan base. As opposed to the traditional jewel CD case that doesn't allow for much creativity or the artists personality to come across as it does from the digipak the artists can make that include personal messages, and photos that are not included on the jewel CD case. I will be creating a digipak for my artist and song that I am making the music video for, planning the digipak is important in the creation process as it allows for changes to be made in the planning which will improve the final product as the good and bad ideas will both be looked at to see if they help create an effective digipak.

Front cover will include some artwork with the clear name of the artist and the album name, this will attract the audience to llok at the digipak and buy it.
The CD will be simple with a picture spread across as the design with the album name and artist name.
The next side will be the lyrics side to the song we are making the music video for, this will help the fans memorise the lyrics to the song.
The next slide will include a picture of the artist, this will show the audience what the artist looks like.
One side will have the personal message from the artist to the fans, this will give them a feeling that the artist wrote the message to them personally gaining the artist fans.
The back cover will have the track list, this will be clear for people looking at the digipak in shops so they get an understanding of what the digipak contains.

Main
·         Explain why you have decided to use certain elements within your digipak, and how it has made your artist’s album appeal to your target audience, as well as promote your artist effectively, and how it differs from a jewel CD case.

   o   Colours
I have decided to use some use of bright colours within my digipak for example the CD and front cover    have some use of bright and colours as it is conventional for the phsycedelic rock genre to have some bright colours. Apart from these use of colours I have decided to keep the digipak simple with limited use of colurs on pages where there is dialogue, which is three pages. Also the picture I decided to include is in black and white, I felt that this would add a more unique element to the digipak.

o   Conventions of genre – whether have conformed/subverted and why
I feel that I have met some conventions of the genre with this digipak as it contains use of bright colours which will attract the target audience of 16-35 year olds as it makes the digipak seem mordern, and also recogniseable for the audience that like the genre as they will notice the digipak with the colurs on the front cover and be attracted to it and might be convinced to buy it. WIth the rest of the digipak I have subverted the general stereotypes as I chose to use basic colours which is in relation to the narrative of the music video and the lyrics of the song, which is about a breakup, which will make the digipak relate to the dark nature of the song and music video, this will make the digipak more effective for the audience as they will be able to relate the this and it will make the artist seem to be thoughtful and want the fans to enjoy the artists product. The digipak also conforms to genre conventions as it includes a picture of the artist, this will show that the artist is involved in the digipak and will make the digipak more personal to the fans which is important.

    o   Images used
kI chose to use an image of our artist in our music video that was taken during the filming of our music video so it will be relateable for the audience to the music video, the image is included to improve the relationship the audience and the artist as they can see his body language and his facial expressions which show that he is sad, this is related to the narrative of the music video. This will represent the artist as moody, this will help build the relationship between the fans and the artist again as they can see what he is feeling.

  o   Layout/design
The layout of my digipak is standard for most digipaks. My digipak includes features such as a front cover, CD,  a note to fans, an image of the artist, lyrics for the song, and a list of the songs in the album.

  o   Typography
I have decided to use basic typography for my digipak as it makes it easy to read for the fans. The note to the fans is in the artists handwriting I have decided to include this as it shows that the artist has put in time to personally write to the fans, which will help to build the relationship between the fans and the artist.

  o   Language
The language I have used in my digipak is standard again so it is easy to read and understand for the audience. The personal language I decided to use for the note to the fans will show the personality of the artist, this will build the relationship between the fans and the artists as they see what the artist is like and they will like the message to them.

o   Think about connotations of all of the above
The connotations that can be taken from this digipak is that the album is part of the phsycedelic rock genre as it has some use of the conventional colours, then also it has some personality and creativity behind it which is seen through the image included and the basic colours used throughout the rest of the album.

Conclusion
I found this useful for the creation of my digipak when I will be using photshop as I can see what images that I would like to use in my digipak that I will take during the filming of the music video. The use of photoshop will benefit my digipak as I could use filters and effects that would make the digipak more conventional to the genre. I am more aware of the picture I need to take during my filming  process as I have seen that it is important for digipaks and would benefit my own if there was an image of the artist included.

Planning editing styles- Miss Georgiou

Introduction.
It is important to include a range of editing styles in a music video as it helps the narrative and concept of the video and also the different editing styles can engage the audience, this would help fold the audience to enjoy the video and will benefit the fans and audience relationship. Without different editing styles the video would be boring and wouldn't engage the audience as they would be watching the same pace of shots and the narrative would be too slow and wouldn't capture the concept of the music video.

Analysis-
Time lapse
We have decided to use a time lapse in our music video, we felt that this editing style would be unique to our music video and it isn't conventional to the genre so would make the music video stand out among others, the time lapse add a good effect to our music video and helps the flow of the narrative and relates to the lyrics as the artist is standing still while it appears the world is travelling fast around him.
Reverse footage
The reverse footage is an important editing style in our music video as it directly relates to the narrative and the lyrics of the video, the basic idea being that the lyrics are 'it feel like we only go backwards' then the reverse footage will show the whole music video in reverse. This isn't conventional to the genre but we felt it would be beneficial to our music video and help engage the audience to the video.
Slow editing
The use of slow editing in our music video is conventional to our genre as some music videos in our genre are more concept based and use slow editing to give the full effect of the concept rather than use a fast paced editing which usually benefits the narrative based videos in the genre. This editing style suits the pace of the song too as the song is slow, this will suit the narrative and fit Goodwins theory. Artists in this genre typically use slower paced editing as it is conventional, mainly because the songs in the genre are slow. As the lyrics are about the relationship going backwards the slower editing style suits the lyrics.
Fast editing
The use of fast editing in our music video is used to show the dramatic event during the break up scene and it helps represent the artist as angry and sad. The editing style isn't conventional to the genre as most videos prefer the use of slow editing styles. I would like to include this in my music video as it makes the breakup scene more dramatic and will engage the audience from the start of the video. This isn't conventional to the genre but fits the lyrics of the song so we have decided to include it in our video.
Colour tints
I would like to include colour tints in our music video as it engages the audience and makes the music video conventional to the genre, which will attract fans of the genre to our music video and will help create fans for our artists as he is recognised as making music conventional to the genre.
Summary-
Our target audience can build a relationship with our target audience through our editing styles, especially as we have chosen to use genre conventional editing styles such as colour tints, also the use of editing styles such as a time lapse will engage the audience to our music video. The different paces that our music video will give the audience a chance to form their opinions on the character and this will build the relationship between the audience and the artist as the video goes on.

Music video storyboards- Miss Georgiou

Storyboards
·         What is the purpose of a storyboard?
The purpose of  a storyboard is to give a guide during the filming process of what shots we can film at what stage and what the precise shot is. The storyboard allows the planning of the music videos to be detailed and you can see what shot type it is, how long the shot lasts for, the angle, setting of the shot, actors, lighting and sound.

·         How did you use your primary and secondary research that you carried out, to plan your music video?
We had decided to carry out research via vox pops and a questionnaire where we asked over 40 people about what they like about a music video and the music video that was conventional to our genre, from this we knew what we have to include in our music video such as a more narrative and concept based music video rather than a performance based music video, form this we decided to only include small performance segments. The primary and secondary research that we carried out was very helpful in this way as it made our music video be more enjoyable for the large audience and target audience that we asked in this research.

·         How did you and your group storyboard your music video
Our group decided on the basic narrative together with individual ideas being discussed, then we decided what shots, lighting, setting and other elements that we planned through the storyboard. We drew each shot out so we had a basic idea of what the shot would look like.

·         How did you share the responsibility?
We shared responsibility by all giving our own ideas and then discussing them, this was the most efficient and productive way of making the storyboards and narrative, and the responsibility wasn't pinned on anyone person.
·         Did you follow your storyboards, or did you make changes? Answer this question after you have filmed
We used the storyboards as a guide, and when we got to the location we might have to change the original idea, or improve it from the original, also whith some shots we followed the storyboards exactly, but other shots we decided not to film.
·         Include your storyboards

Planning magazine advert- Miss Miller

Intro
Magazine adverts are very important for promoting artists albums as they reach a wide audience that might not have known about the band or the album and this magazine advert is a chance to convince them to buy it. Good magazine adverts are clear with the bands name and album name and usually have some clever artwork or a picture of the band that engages the people see the advert to read more about the album, this would then show them the album and why they might want to buy it.

I will be creating a poster for the album of my chosen artist, I will be making it with consideration of conventions of the genre and what the bands image is from the advert, this will be good to help sales of the album as it recognisable as the bands album and conventional to their genre. The specific conventions and artwork that I would like to use on my magazine advert will have to be planned well as it could end up not being what I thought in my head and wouldn't suit the band or album, this could lead to loss in sales.

o   Colours
I have decided to use bright colours for the artwork around the bands name for my magazine advert, as I feel that this fit conventions of the genre of the bright colours and catches the attention of the reader of the magazine. This is opposed to  a plain magazine advert that would not look interesting to the reader of the magazine. The colours appeal to our target audience as our target audience is quite young and would be attracted to the bright colours as it makes the magazine advert look modern. The diversity of the genre allows me to use these bright colours as the genres audience likes uniqueness and the bright colours, I feel are unique and will attract a large audience.

o   Conventions of genre
This magazine advert has conformed to the conventions of the phsycedelic rock genre as it includes the bright colours that are popular within the genre, this would be attractive for fans of the genre who see the album cover and people who see the bright colours as modern and interesting and look at the magazine advert in more detail.

o   Images used
The main image that I used for this magazine advert is of the main character in our music video sitting at stairs, this relates back to the album name of Lonerism as he is sitting on his own. This isn't conventional to the genre as typically the music videos and the magazine adverts are very separate but I felt that by combining them together this would give both the music video and magazine advert more meaning.

o   Layout/design
The layout of my magazine advert is simple as there is three main segments, the top with the bright colours and band name, the middle with the image and the bottom with the song name, this makes the magzine advert simple to see and read for the audience. It also makes the name of the album and name of the band clear to the audience.

o   Typography
The typography that I chose in my planning stage is fairly simple and basic, this allows for easy reading, which is important in magazine adverts as it can be read quickly, and people might not look at the page with the advert for very long. The font is slightly unusual as it misses some lines of letter, for example the 'A' is not a normal 'A' this makes the magazine advert identifiable and give the band a reputation of being unique. I wan't this unique typography to represent the artist, as it is a unique font and I feel it fits the conventions of the genre and will get the artist recognised by his diversity, this will help grow a fan base for the artist.

o   Language
The language that I chose to use in my magazine advert is basic as I wanted it to be quick and easy to read for the audience. Also it is conventional of the genre to not have a lot of writing on the magazine advert or the album cover so it is acceptable for my own magazine advert.

o   Think about connotations of all of the above
The connotations that come from my magazine advert are that the band is modern and conventional to the genre, this is seen through the bright colours use in the magazine advert. Also there are positive connotations that come from the magazine advert such as showing our artist to be unique and diverse, but also conventional to our genre, this will help the artist get fans.

Conclusion
I found making this draft magazine advert very useful as it made me realise what conventions I defiantly need to include in my magazine advert to make it conventional such a s the colours. And also it made me see how the artwork on the magazine advert can be effective at engaging people to the album and band. I feel like I am more aware of the pictures I need to take for my magazine advert as I feel that the images I used could be better, and more realistic and by taking the pictures in a live setting it would be more effective and look better for my magazine advert. The names of the artist and album will be different when I make the final magazine advert but this is a name before we decide what to call our artist.

Digipak analysis- Miss Miller

you will analyse and discuss all the areas of the digipak, explaining how they represent the artist in order to appeal to an audience and represent/subvert their genre

Intro – Explain what the purpose of a digipak is (refer back to bullet points and comparison with CD case). State what digipak you have chosen to analyse and why.

The purpose of a digipak is to carry the CD of an artists album, they are generally made out of cardboard and have six sides that show artwork chosen by the artist, this allows for some artists to be creative with the artwork, some include personal messages to the fans of the artist and some contain lyrics to some of the popular songs. These special features from digipaks make the more personal to the fans of the artist, creating a bond between the artist and the audience, which can get the artist loyal fans.
Compared to CD cases made of plastic the digipak isn't as durable and this can lead to damage of the CD if the case is breaks. For CD collectors they would prefer plastic cases for albums as they are easier to store in stacks and more durable offering bette protection for the CD.

In this post I will be analysing the digpak made by Tame Impala for their second album 'Lonerism', this is relevant to my group as we have chosen to make a music video for Tame Impala and will also make a digipak for the song we have chosen from them. This will allow us to get a good understanding of conventions that are carried in the phsycedelic rock genre digpaks.

 Representation of the artist
The representation of the artist on this digipak is vague it shows what the audience perceive to be a band member on the floor laying down playing guitar in two different places, in both pictures he has instruments around him and appears to inside. From this the artist are shown to be musical, this is seen by the instruments he is with, this creates a relationship between then artist and the audience as the audience see that the band are passionate about the music they make, this helps the band to get fans as they are known to be talented and good at making music. From the photos of the artists relaxing for their digipak the audience can also see that they are relaxed, this can be used to describe their music as well as it is relaxing to listen to this is a clear message that the artists are trying to put forward with their digipak.
The front cover of the digipak shows the artist to be very unique, as it is completely different to any conventions, it also shows a message from the front cover as the image is of a protest, this shows the audience that the artist is rebellious, and is opinionated, this could gain him fans as people like artists who spread messages through their work and believe in thing which is what this artist does.
 Connotations of digipak.
The digipak for this album has a few connotations that the artist can see, for example the front cover is an image of a park where the point of view is behind gates, this could suggest to the audience that the pint of view of the band is behind a barrier when they made this album or digipak, this could also relate to the album name of lonerism which also suggests that the artists have written an album about being alone, this makes sense to the audience after listening to the album as the album is about a break in a relationship.

Colours.
This digpak has used lots of different colours the main colour filter used is an orange filter, this is conventional to the phsycedelic rock genre as many bands use bright colour filters in their music videos and on their posters, magazine adverts and albums. The point of including the colour filter is to make the audience recognise the digipak as a physcedelic rock digipak, this could attract audiences that like the genre but don't know of the band, so when they see the digipak they would see that they might be like other bands from the same genre.

Design and Layout.
The digipak has a basic layout, it uses artwork as the background with either track listings, lyrics or the album name over the top. There are two sides of the digipak that are just artwork, with the filters that show the genre conventions. The point of having a basic digipak layout is to let the audience see the content on the digpak rather than focus on the image of the artist or artwork, the digipak can still be appreciated for its artwork, but the band clearly wanted the audience to focus on the content such as the lyrics and song names.

Choice of image.
The choice of images for this digipak are clearly chosen for the audience to enjoy, they also carry on the story told by the songs in album such as the pictures of the band member alone with his instruments, the point of view picture of the park with the gates in front and the forest picture without anyone else in the picture. The images are not very detailed, but this is conventional for the genre and they would rather the audience concentrate on the artwork of the digipak or the music in the album. This creates a more personal experience for the people who have the digipak as they can see the creativity behind the artwork and how it relates to the songs and the album.

Typography.
There isn't a lot of writing on this digipak, but the two main places where there is writing the font is basic and isn't very creative, it is there more to tell the audience the name of the album and the band name, not to give any for of connection to the band or build the relationship between the band and the artist. the typography is in a colour so that is contrasting to the background making it clear to read.

Style of language.
There isn't a range of style of language in this digipak, this isn't conventional to the genre as some other digpiaks from the same genre have lots of writing on them or a personal message to their fans, this digipak doesn't have this it only has the name of the album, band, lyrics and names of the songs. This may be disappointing for the audience as they might have expected a more personal message from the band to them as that is not unusual on dgipaks, so for fans of the band they may feel a bit disappointed with the band.

Summary.
I will use this research to better plan my own digipakk, I have seen that the artwork on this digipak is clever as it links the theme of the album to the artwork, this is something that I could consider for my own digipak. Also as the digipak isn't very personal to the fans of the band, I would consider making my own digipak more personal by using different styles of language and typography to make the digpak more personal to the fans. The digipak successfully promotes the artists image, as it shows he belives in thing and his music is meaningful as well as his artwork, it also makes sure to highlight that he is talented through the pictures of his instruments. Overall the digipak will be successful in gaining the artist fans and selling the album.
This research was beneficial as it showed how diverse the genre we have chosen is, this shows me that we can have more freedom when producing our digipak and can also use the digipak to show the audience the artist is passionate about his art and music which a digipak is a good platform to show.
