1) Introduction
Explain what the copyright law is and how it is used within the music industry
"Copyright is a legal right created by the law of a country, that grants the creator of an original work exclusive rights to its use and distribution, with the intention of enabling the creator (e.g. the photographer of a photograph or the author of a book) to receive compensation for their intellectual effort." what this means for music artists and record labels is that they can put a copyright on their song so other people cannot make money from their song by copying it. This saves the record label and artist money as their song cant be sold by someone else, this gives them the full profit, which is why music copyright is so important.Explain what the copyright law is and how it is used within the music industry
2) Applying for copyright
1) Explain why you had to apply for copyright
1) Explain why you had to apply for copyright
I have had to apply for copyright right for the use of this song for when we make a music video for it. We had to do this as the record label might have had a problem with us uploading our version of the music video to Youtube, this is what our intention is so if we tell them what we are going to do, they can give us permission to use the song in our video and upload it to youtube, this will save us problems like the video being taken down from youtube if we didn't have permission.
2) Discuss in detail what you did. Identify the record label, email, phone, etc (step by step account)
First we had to find the record labels contact details, so we went onto Tame Impala's official website and there was contact information for their record label The record label for the UK was 'U Music' which is a subsidiary company of Universal records. We then E-mailed the contact for the UK, which asked for permission to use the song in our music video.
3) Response- did you get a response from the record label, how many times did
you contact them, are you still awaiting a response?
This post demonstrates some understanding of what the purpose of music copyright is and the role it has to creating a production.
